Eighty-five percent of the children served at La Rabida are covered by Medicaid and all have chronic or complex medical conditions. She finds it is getting more and more difficult to recruit the best and brightest new doctors out of medical school when Illinois’ reimbursement rates are so low. “It’s simple math,” says Dr. Jaudes. “Those doctors are going to accept positions in other states with better rates, and our kids are put at risk.”
