Beth Jones’ daughter Sommer was diagnosed with
Type I Juvenile Diabetes four years ago.  Suddenly, the family’s medical bills were hundreds of dollars a month. “We had to decide each month whether to buy insulin or pay our electric bill, and it was difficult to make our mortgage payments.”

Dr. Daniel Johnson is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago. His specialty is treating children with infectious and often life-threatening diseases. “We are watching the evolution of a crisis in health care,” says Dr. Johnson.

Dr. Paula Jaudes is the President and CEO of La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago.  85 percent of the children served at La Rabida are covered by Medicaid and all have chronic or complex medical conditions.

Dr. Eric King is an Attending Physician in Orthopedic Surgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital.  At Children’s Memorial, more than 15,000 children receive treatment each year for conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, bone dysplasias and traumas.


Cherrie Stepney is a single working mother living in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. Her teenage twins are covered by All Kids for their health care.



Dr. Deanna Monroe is a community pediatrician practicing in Chicago and the Northwest suburbs.  As a primary care pediatrician, many of her young patients must be referred to pediatric specialists for advanced treatment and therapies.
